Further to my previous message of support, I hope you were as reassured as I was to read the Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt’s, comments in the House of Commons yesterday (5 July 2016). Mr Hunt noted the extraordinary contribution migrants make to the NHS; he, like HCL, recognises the health service would “fall over” without you.
It is clearly an uncertain time for the entire population as we await the terms of the UK’s exit from the EU, but you should be aware HCL will continue to highlight just how critical EU staff are to delivering high quality patient care. HCL campaigned for non-EU nurses to be added to the Shortage Occupation List and we have no hesitation in making the same case as part of any future arrangements for EU staff in advance of the UK’s exit. We are immensely proud of the strong collaboration between British, EU and non-EU staff in the NHS; this diversity and mix of skills makes our health service unique and must be protected.
As ever, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with HCL.
